About Ysans Family font
Ysans Font Family is a Neo-Grotesque Sans Serif font that combines clean, modern lines with a warm and friendly feel. The geometric linear typeface has been one of the preferred typographic tools in the fashion industry since the Chanel logotype. The Ysans affirms this reference. Not only do fashion houses use this type of character for their visual identity, but fashion magazines generally support their layout with these geometric linear types, even though they do not use Didot.
The Ysans nevertheless draws its sources from certain details imagined by the graphic designer-poster artist Adolphe Mouron Cassandre for the monogram that became the Yves Saint Laurent logotype (1961…). One thing that constantly comes back in Cassandre’s post-war graphic design work is the pointed endings, the references to engraved Roman capitals and unique particularities, such as the open R or other details influenced by ancient and calligraphic forms or the ductus (It should be remembered that one of Cassandre’s first characters is the Peignot, a modern uncial based on research by the paleographer Jean Mallon.) Some letters of the Ysans are a direct homage to the Yves Saint Laurent logotype, the R, the narrow U, the apex of the N and all the pointed ending details found on the lowercase f and t.
